Feijoada is the national dish in Brazil. It is a recipe of beans with rice and pork meat. The recipie usually include “farofa de mandioca'' (cassava), a root from the rainforest, mixed with maize flour and oil and bacon), and of course before to eat and stimulate your appetite another traditional Brazilian drink "Caipirinha" (cachaca, brazilian alcohol made from the sugar cane, mixed with lemons, ice cubes and sugar).
That`s the perfect combination for typical brazilian food. Usually served in the lunch time, the Feijoada was made when the Africans slaves were brought by Portugueses to Brazil for slave work and be sold. The culinaire culture from Africa was mixed with the Portuguese and Brazilian recipes. The Africans had the bean stew, the Portugueses the sausage (linguica) and Brazilians Indians the farofa. But as they were slaves, they just had the leftover of pork and other parts that they found to put inside that great mix to feed them.
The result was a "heavy" dish which fed and gave boost to the workers have energy they needed to the slave work, the feijoada!
Today the feijoadas are widely famous in Brazil and most restaurants have a specific day on Wednesday and Saturdays which is a special day where you can eat while enjoy a live samba musicians.
IT'S COMPLETELY AMAZING! I RECOMMEND YOU!
