Hayden - conjunction + gerund + reporting speech

Lucy explained that she found it difficult to make friends in a new city because having no time means she is busy at work and also studying English. Although having no time, she also does't mind making friends because she might have a problem speaking with people she hasn't met before at the first time. Besides that, she realised that opportunity is also a problem to meet people because she would have a problem studying at the school there isn't have any local students , so she speak to me that opportunity is also a big problem for her to meet local friends.

Anna - Shoji adventures

Shoji came here 4 months ago, and he thinks making new friends is not so difficult. In fact, now he has some friends. He told me that drinking is a good way to make friends. While drinking, a guy sat near him and they started talking. He said that guy was friendly, and they became friends. If he had stayed at home that night, he wouldn't have met him! This guy introduced him to some other friends, who are now friends of his. After meeting these guys, he had other opportunities to make friends. Many people would like to meet people from foreign countries to learn a new language, and Shoji is going to find some circles where they do language exchange. He wouldn't have a problem finding new friends, because he is very extroverted. Because learning English is important for him, he is happy to have more opportunities to speak with people from Australia. He told me that if he had become friends with people from his own country his English wouldn't have improved so much, which is true!

Anastasiya - Yuka's experience about making friends in a new city

Now I had a good conversation with Yuka about making friends in a new city. I think she is a really nice person, so making new friends should't be difficult for her, but because we all have a language barrier being here in Australia, it is hard.
Yuka told me that she would find it difficult to make friends without attending a school, and I agree with her. Making friends consists of communication with people, so it is necessary to meet people. It could be a school or a workplace. Also, Yuka told me that she would be more confident and it would be far easier to communicate with people if she weren't such a shy person. It is familiar to me as well. You should be brave and you should make mistakes, otherwise you won't learn and have any success.

Shoji - talk to Anna about 'making new friends'

I talked about "making new friends" to Anna Chiara. I'll show you a information of her below.
Anna has stayed Australia for only about 1 month.

Anna would find it difficult to make friends when she studies at a language school or somewhere, for there are few people who are native, so she thinks if she studies at a local school such as a secondary school or a university, it would be much easier to make new friends.
In addition to it, she thinks if she works as a waiter instead of just going back home immediately after school, it would be easier to make new friends, for she could have more oppotunities to do it.

That's all I think...

Kana - Which is more useful, an iPad or a teacher?

Which is more useful, an iPad or a teacher?

Most teachers have their own ways to teach, and help students to understand well. Nowadays, some teachers are using new technology such as iPads. In the near future it will be more common to use them in an educational situations as more technology develops. In this essay, I'm going to compare between an iPad and a teacher. What can they do for students? How can they help students in a classroom? How can they affect students' knowledge and marks, or even their lives? I think that both of them are important for students, and divide work among them.

I think that both iPads and teachers have merits of helping students in their own ways. Teachers can teach students face-to-face which means they can know how students understand, and they can also devise each students' explanation. iPads can teach students using its screen and some interesting software, so students can have fun while they study. I think using the screen is especially good for Mathematics or Science because we can see colourful graphs or models, and they make students understand easier. There are 15 students and one teacher in the class, for example. All of them have their own iPads, and the teacher uses an iPad as a white board. If the students don't understand the explanation on their iPads, they can ask to the teacher. It's not a complicated system, and it will be more common within 10 years. You might think that we don't need teachers any more in the future, yet they will be more important in education.
In my opinion, new technology can't help students with giving advice, nor can it understand their feelings. We can't expect iPads to understand their feelings or moods because iPads are just iPads. If there is no teacher in a classroom, it's complicated, and it doesn't work properly. The communication between technology and us is one-way. They can give us immense information, yet they can't give us personal advice. I believe that the relationship between teachers and students is always important for us.
I also think that their experience at schools can affect their knowledge and their lives. When we are children we go to schools such as a kindergarten, a primary school, a middle school, and so on. They are extremely important for our education. Therefore, teachers are really effective for us. When I was in the middle school, I liked the Science class because the teacher was funny and he was helpful for students. Also, his explanations were excellent. So, because of that I could get high scores at Science, and I still love it. I think that most people have experience like me, and it wouldn't happen if there were only iPads in a classroom. However, teachers and students are getting used to using iPads in educational situations. There are a lot of possibilities, and they will become a more important part of our knowledge and lives.

There are a lot of merits of using both iPads and teachers in education. They can also help students from different angles, and divide their jobs. We can say that the new technology is already a part of our education, and it will affect our future education even more. When they are balanced well, our education will be much better.

[Eduardo] The sunshine of the spotless mind - movie

I am going to talk about the first part of the movie "The Sunshine of the Spotless Mind".

It`s a cold morning, probably winter in New York, John is waking up to go to work. He looks like bad and depressed with his routine, he doesn`t look happy with his own life.

That morning starts when he find his car crashed by the neighboor`s car and he has to take a train to go to work, it`s too busy and he is late. He decide not to go work that mornig and goes to the beach for a walk and think about his life. While he is walking, he notice a girl on the beach, she is wearing  red jacket and with blue hair.

After that, he visit an old house and then he goes to the train station to go back home. In the train station he notice  the same girl waiting for the train and when the train comes they sit close to each other. The blue hair girl start  a conversation with John, she has an eccentric personality and scare John, but he start  to chat with her and start  to know each other.

Eternal sunshine anna

Joel is a sad and depressed man. He woke up and prepared to go to work, but when he was at the train station waiting for his train, he started running and got another train. This train took him to the sea, where he saw a girl with blue hair. He also saw her in a bar, and she smiled at him. While he was at the train station, waiting to go back home, he saw the same woman he had seen before. They got the same train, but they sat far from each other. After a while, the woman said "hello" and started talking with him, and said her name was Clementine. They got off the train, and Joel was driving his car when he saw her, walking along the street. So he decided to call her and gave her a drive to her home. They arrived and she asked him if he wanted to have a drink and to come inside her home. He accepted and Clementine prepared two 'blue ruins' for them. She wanted him to spend the night with her, but he seemed confused and suddently told her he had to go back home. Before he left her, she gave him her telephone number, writing it on his skin. When he arrived home, he regretted leaving her, so he phoned her, and they went to a frozen lake. They watched the stars and stayed on the ice

Josh - Famous Conditionals

Seeing that we have been learning how to make conditional sentences this week, I thought I would share some famous conditional sentences from history with you:

"If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything." Mark Twain

"If you live long enough, you'll see that every victory turns into a defeat." - Simone de Beauvoir

Josh - 3rd conditionals with explanations

We have just learned the third conditional, used for hypothetical situations in the past. Remember the structure: 'If' + past perfect + 'would have' + past participle.

I would like you to write three third conditional sentences.  After each, include an explanation of it using the conjunctions 'but' and 'so.'

Here are three examples:

If I hadn't met my girlfriend, I wouldn't have come to Perth, but I did meet her, so I did come.

If I hadn't bought an iPad, I wouldn't have used it so much, but I did buy one, so I have used it a lot.

If Anastasiya hadn't found a job, she would have been very bored, but she did find a job, so she is less bored than before.

Post three of your own in the comments of this post.

Hayden - Compare one aspect of Perth with Kuantan

I come from Malaysia, a small to wn called Kuantan and I think everything in Malaysia is far cheaper than Perth, especially food.
The food in Malaysia is much cheaper than Perth. It is because in my country there are many cultures such as Malay people, Chinese people and Indian people I think. In fact, I think the economy in Australia is very good so that all the things that have sold in Australia are far more expensive than Malaysia, even the food.
Besides that, I think the currency is also a problem because the currency conversion from Ringgit to Dollars is about 3.2. For example a plate of Nasi Lemak sold in Malaysia is about 3 Ringgit, but the Nasi Lemak sold in here is about 10 Dollars and when you convert to Ringgits it is about 32 Ringgit . So as I said the food in Malaysia is far cheaper than Perth.
Moreover,  the food in Malaysia is much cheaper. It is because there are many competitors I think. In fact, Malaysia has many cultures, so that they have many food such as Malay foods, Chinese foods and Indian foods.
Finally, I prefer the food in Malaysia more than here, because the food in my country has many choices and is far cheaper compared to Perth.  And , I think the food in Malaysia is much more delicious than  here.
